Telly Kongolo (Owner)

Artist Telly Kongolo’s life journey has taken him from the bustling streets of Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, to Tumon, Guam. As the owner of The Potter’s Studio Guam, Kongolo’s story intertwines personal growth, artistic evolution, and the challenges of managing a creative business.

Born into a family deeply rooted in the arts, Kongolo’s journey began with early exposure to creativity. His uncle, serving as the President of the Fine Arts Academy in Kinshasa, ignited Telly’s passion for the arts. Kongolo’s family later relocated to France, where his formative years in Paris and Lille laid the foundation for a multicultural artistic perspective. As an adult, he also spent extensive time studying, living, and working in China and Korea, which furthered infused the influence of world cultures into his artwork.

The inception of The Potter’s Studio Guam emerged from Kongolo’s relocation to Guam during the Covid-19 pandemic. Faced with the decision to focus on painting, sculpture, or ceramics, he identified a gap in Guam’s artistic offerings and chose pottery. Kongolo considers himself fortunate to have found a community that embraces pottery and is passionate about learning and creating.

Aspen Egbert

Aspen Egbert was raised on a farm in Southern Idaho, USA, amidst the rustic charm of rural life. As the fourth of eleven children, she embraced the values of hard work and resilience from a young age, actively participating in the daily chores and tasks alongside her family. At just sixteen years old, Aspen embarked on her journey into the realm of pottery when she enrolled in her first ceramics class at the local college. Instantly captivated by the transformative power of clay and the boundless possibilities of artistic expression, she found her true passion in the art of sculpting. Graduating with a degree in ceramic arts, Aspen furthered her education in the health science field, merging her love for creativity with her commitment to promoting well-being. Alongside her professional endeavors, Aspen derives great joy from sharing her expertise as a pottery instructor and fulfilling her role as a running coach. Outside of her work, she finds solace and adventure in running marathons, exploring new destinations, basking in the sun at the beach, and embarking on outdoor escapades with her husband and six children.
